A word from the CEO
Another bumper edition! This month we profile Mark Goldstone, CEO of the City of Prospect, we take a look at how to measure your Council Brand, review some recent events (with some free links to some fantastic sites), and much more.
Each month, we try to provide a good mix of up to the minute information and latest news, useful and quirky ideas, industry trends, local LGMA (SA) member profiles and of course LGMA (SA) and its networks upcoming events.
But if you have any ideas or comments to help improve this newsletter, we'd love to hear from you - please drop us a line.
Please enjoy the newsletter, and I hope to see you at an LGMA (SA) event in the near future.
Regards
Taryn

Industry Trends - what's your Council Brand?
All organisations have a brand that they need to manage.
A brand is closely associated with the reputation of the organisation and its products and services.
Here’s an example:
The Apple Brand Personality
Apple has a branding strategy that focuses on the emotions. The Apple brand personality is about lifestyle; imagination; liberty regained; innovation; passion; hopes, dreams and aspirations; and power-to-the-people through technology. The Apple brand personality is also about simplicity and the removal of complexity from people's lives; people-driven product design; and about being a really humanistic company with a heartfelt connection with its customers.
Councils have brands too.
Some brand attributes are intentional, some are probably not. But they are there. For example, some councils would be regarded by their community as innovative, cost effective, flexible, contemporary and customer-focused. Others may be seen as stodgy, slow moving, bureaucratic. Or any points in between.

Make your planning day more interesting...
Where was your last planning day? In the council office, or locked in a bleak room at some business premises with no view, with only water and rock-hard minties to get you through?
Well how about this - the tiny historic Port Elliot Council Chamber is not only a unique piece of history - established in 1879 - it's available for hire, through the Alexandrina Council.
A fun location, steeped in history - surely that would get the creative juices flowing!
